Dear Montaigne

We are pleased to announce a new addition to the Site.  Dear Montaigne invites all of you to share your thoughts and ideas about Living a Good Life with your fellow seminarians.  We dedicate this new section of the Site to our good friend Pete Thigpen.

The Bridge

The Bridge

Dear all,

Pete's passing on Nov 5th was a jolt. We had been back and forth to prep for the Good Life seminar from November 10th to 12th. The theme was “A Good Life in Fraught Times.”

Pete had been in a nasty fight with cancer for some time, so when I got his last email, I wasn’t totally surprised. He quoted the last line of Thornton Wilder's book, The Bridge of San Luis Rey,

“ There is a land of the living, and a land of the dead and the bridge is love,
the only survival, the only meaning.“

So we stand on that bridge as we remember our dear and special friend.

Warmest wishes

And now, good life friends,
our gathering has ended but our
memories of Pete shall live forever on...

As Paul has so often said...

"Life is short
and we do not have much time
to gladden the hearts of those who
     journey with us."

So let us be swift to both give
and to receive love,
offering kindness to all we meet along the way.

And may the God who dances in creation,
Who shakes our lives like thunder,
Who shows us love,

Bless us and send us out with power
to make our world a safer, kinder and
more just world for all.

Grace and peace be with you all
now and forever.

Amen
